To establish the CMMC Ecosystem's assessor cadre, the CAICO trains and tests a pool of CMMC instructors experienced in delivering in-person and virtual classroom training. These instructors also complete provisional assessor training with the CAICO to have an overall comprehensive knowledge of the CMMC Framework. The CAICO Provisional Instructor (PI) program provides training and validation for individual trainers who handle training assessors through the Approved Training Provider (ATP) network and for providing Subject-Matter Expertise (SME) in Approved Publishing Partner (APP) curriculum development. The PI program will remain in place until the release of the CMMC Certified Instructor (CCI) certification program, the timing of which is pending. It is important that individuals seeking assessor training know that only training delivered by Provisional Instructors through an ATPs is valid for preparing for the CAICO certification programs. The CAICO will use the administrative tracking protocols between itself and ATPs to validate assessors' training and certification for CMMC Assessments.
Complete the following steps (in the following order) to meet the requirements for enrollment in the CMMC instructor program.
Provisional Instructors must meet the prerequisite experience requirements listed below. As well, CMMC Provisional Instructor Candidates will go through a self-paced, online instructor training, that requires prior instructor experience for comprehension of the learning objectives. If you meet the criteria below, proceed to step 2; otherwise, begin your assessor journey on the Assessors page.
The Provisional Instructor (PI) asynchronous (self-paced) training includes five modules that prepare the CMMC instructor in content and/or subject knowledge, preparation, and organization and clarity of the learning environment for CMMC instruction. The asynchronous training allows students to test their CMMC instruction capabilities before the final PI Exam during the PI candidate Pre-Exam presentation module. Provisional Instructor (PI) Course will be sunset upon the release of the CCI program, which is expected in early 2026.
