Who says CMMC has to be boring?

Check out the new Cyber AB

CMMC CAN SEEM CONFUSING...OUR NAME WASN'T HELPING
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Accreditation Body, Inc. is now The Cyber AB.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) established CMMC to secure its supply chains within the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), requiring sensible cybersecurity measures to reduce digital risk and enhance our national security. DoD relies on The Cyber AB (formerly known as the CMMC-AB) as its exclusive partner to execute this critical mission.

The Cyber AB operates as the sole accreditation body for the CMMC Ecosystem, while also providing or overseeing additional functions to support DoD’s implementation of the CMMC initiative.

In short, we bring together the critical cadres of CMMC assessors, practitioners, instructors, trainers, publishers, and CMMC Third-Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAOs) that assist, facilitate, and serve DIB companies in their CMMC certification journeys.

Collectively, we will strive to ensure a more resilient and secure Defense Industrial Base to protect DoD’s information, support our warfighters, and contribute to our nation’s defense.

We now have a new look, a new website, and a new name.

We have gladly put our original website to “digital pasture”…so check out the new Cyber AB website!

FAQS

Why the new look and logo?

The organization has matured significantly since its founding in early 2020. Specifically, the original CMMC-AB logo and organizational colors were derived directly from DoD’s official CMMC program mark. One could reasonably (but incorrectly) infer from our old logo that the CMMC Accreditation Body was a government office or a quasi-government entity. We are not. The Cyber AB is an independent, non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

Secondly, by closely mirroring the government CMMC logo, which is unprotected intellectual property, we were unable to effectively police the unauthorized use of the CMMC-AB mark by scofflaw individuals and entities who claim registration, authorization, certification, or affiliation with us that does not exist.

The new logo and colors give us a distinctive, polished, and refreshed corporate identity that differentiates us as the independent organization that we are.

Why the new name?

Let’s face it…” The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Accreditation Body, Inc.” is not a concise name. In addition, the shorter but phonetically challenged “CMMC-AB” is not much of an improvement. We needed to reduce the degree of difficulty involved when people – including us – say our name.

Not only is “The Cyber AB” a pithier treatment, but it also signals the potential future growth of our mission and our offerings. As we speak to other commercial sectors, other government agencies, and even other nations, there is increased interest in exploring the role of what a trusted third-party cybersecurity conformance regime can bring to securing supply chains and reducing digital risk. Some of these future efforts may not necessarily be directly aligned to DoD’s CMMC program, so we wanted to account for that.

The Cyber AB is a “doing business as” (d/b/a) name. Our official legal name remains the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Accreditation Body, Inc.

To be clear, the inclusion of “CMMC Certification” in our official Cyber AB mark speaks to our sole priority right now, which is to get CMMC up and running as a trusted and successful program.

How do you pronounce the new name?

The Cyber AB is pronounced with the “A” and the “B” enunciated separately…just like A, B, C…

The Cyber AB does not use any eponymous acronyms or initialism. So no “CAB,” please.

Are the new name and logo protected by trademark?

Both the name The Cyber AB and our logo have been submitted for trademark/service mark protection with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the approval of which is pending.

What are you providing that is new and how is it better?

Our new website, in addition to being more pleasing to the eye, should be far easier to navigate, plus includes additional functionality. Specifically, the Marketplace, a core capability that brings together the many interested parties and service providers involved in CMMC, is much improved. The new website also provides more information, is more transparent about The Cyber AB (including leadership, staff, and governance), and is easier to search.

Has the new name and new look changed any roles and responsibilities of the former CMMC-AB?

No.

If we hold CMMC-AB credentials, will the actual badges change?

Yes, The Cyber AB will be issuing new, updated, and more secure official credentials to all Registered Practitioners (RPs), Registered Practitioner Organizations (RPOs), and authorized CMMC Third-Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAOs).
