CMMC Instructors

The training community is a vital part of the CMMC ecosystem that facilitates the development of expertly trained CMMC Assessors who will work for the C3PAO organizations that will be responsible for assessing CMMC compliance for Organizations Seeking Certification (OSC). Developing trained Instructors is just as important for building the CMMC ecosystem. Trained CMMC Instructors participate in the development of certification programs curriculum provided by the Approved Publishing Partners (APPs). CMMC Instructors also bring their expertise to the development and delivery of the courses and classes that train the Assessors preparing for CMMC through an Approved Training Provider (ATP).

As of September 2024, there is still an Provisional Instructor (PI) program being offered by the CAICO. The PI program will remain available until there is a new CMMC Certified Instructor (CCI) program launched sometime in 2025. At that point, all PI’s will be required to take and pass the CCI exam within six (6) months from the public launch of the CCI program to retain a CMMC Instructor status. Therefore, at this time, there should be no one representing themselves as anything but a Provisional Instructor.

Two other key roles within the CMMC training ecosystem are the organizations that develop and deliver the content needed to train the CMMC community.

Approved Publishing Partners

Approved Publishing Partners (APP), formerly Licensed Publishing Partners (LPP) – These are the organizations approved by the CAICO to develop the CMMC certification curriculum. They develop the curriculum, mapping to the certification blueprints, and then submit the curriculum for a third-party review to earn the CMMC Approved Training Materials (CATM) designation.

Approved Training Providers

Approved Training Providers (ATP), formerly Licensed Training Providers (LTP) – These are the organizations approved by the CAICO to develop and deliver the CMMC certification programs. The ATPs are required to use CATM curriculum for their courses and classes. They are also required to use PIs for the delivery of the content. It is important that individuals seeking assessor training know that only training successfully completed with a Provisional Instructor (PI) through the CAICO is valid for preparing for the certification programs. The Department of Defense (DoD) and the CAICO will be using the administrative tracking protocols employed between the CAICO and ATPs to validate the assessors who are trained and certified to conduct CMMC Assessments. To find an ATP or to see PIs, in the future CCIs, visit The Cyber AB Marketplace.
